NOT A HOTEL has inaugurated its innovative new headquarters, the NOT A HOTEL OFFICE, in Tokyo's Harumi district. This expansive, factory-style facility transcends traditional office concepts, serving as a dynamic laboratory and creative epicenter for the company's evolving work methodologies and future ventures. Despite a prevailing remote-first ethos, the design by NOT A HOTEL ARCHITECTS integrates diverse work zones, adaptable event spaces, and versatile meeting rooms, all meticulously crafted to embody the company's distinctive philosophy.
A notable addition to the headquarters is The NIGO Lounge, an exclusive area personally designed by the celebrated creative director NIGO. This private sanctuary, intended solely for NOT A HOTEL property owners, offers a unique and limited experience for one group daily. The lounge is fully equipped for intimate gatherings, featuring high-end smokeless yakiniku grills and dedicated back kitchens for culinary preparations. NIGO's signature aesthetic is evident throughout, particularly in a commanding storage wall composed of 284 units of USM Haller modular furniture, a system long admired by the director, creating both functional storage and a visually striking backdrop. The office also proudly houses an authentic Jean Prouvé 6x6 Demountable House from 1944, meticulously imported from France, filled with vintage French modernist furnishings that align with NOT A HOTEL's minimalist design and its guiding principle of 'living anywhere.' The central common area features an impressive 15-meter-long wooden table, complemented by Cassina's black block stools, a collaboration with Virgil Abloh, fostering spontaneous interaction and a convergence of ideas within the 40-meter-deep space, which also includes 36 flexible workstations and four quiet contemplation pods. A modern meeting area with a dark grey kitchen, outfitted with premium appliances and cutlery mirroring those found in NOT A HOTEL properties, completes this vibrant ecosystem.
Ultimately, this state-of-the-art office is more than just a workspace; it is a manifestation of NOT A HOTEL's pioneering vision for the future of work and hospitality. By seamlessly blending functional design with artistic curation, including displaying NIGO's personal collection of rare artifacts and iconic PRATONE lounge chairs, the space cultivates an environment that inspires creativity, collaboration, and forward-thinking ideas, reflecting the company's commitment to innovation and pushing conventional boundaries.
